Kayaking

Kayaking (Level 1)

This course is tailored for beginners who are eager to learn the fundamental kayaking strokes and techniques. Throughout the sessions, participants will master essential skills including forward, backward, abeam, and spins under expert guidance at the Henry Fok Swimming Pool. In the final session, participants will be putting their skills to the test in their venture out at Sandy Bay.

This course is specifically designed to teach beginners how to paddle a kayak safely and enjoyably in calm and protected ocean environments, as well as other flat-water settings. Join us for an exciting journey into the world of kayaking.

Prerequisites:
  1. Capable of swimming a distance of 50 meters and stay afloat in water at destined location for one minute without assistance from any buoyancy aid.
  2. Confidence in and under deep water/open sear without panic if falling out.
Points to note:
  1. Participant’s personal particulars will be shared with our assigned instructor for the necessary communication and preparations.
  2. Participants have to follow the regulations governing the use of our swimming pool and wear suitable clothing and gear, such as swimming suits, swimming trunks, sunglasses, spectacle bands, sun caps, breathable long-sleeved outer clothing; and slippers during swimming pool training session/heel-toe covered rubber water sports shoes for open sea activities.
  3. Participants are advised to bring their personal cleaning supplies and spare clothes.
  4. Participants must wear buoyancy aids provided by the centre.
  5. In case of cold weather, participants may consider to wear fleece outer clothing and windbreaker jacket. Full-body wetsuit which can limit your mobility is highly not preferred.
  6. Make-up session will be arranged according to the schedule whenever is necessary.

Kayaking (Level 2) (New)

Building upon the fundamental strokes mastered in Level 1 or elementary courses, this course is designed for paddlers ready to transition from the swimming pool and protected bay to a gentle coastal environment. Participants will learn the essential skills and safety knowledge, including trip planning, marine awareness, and group paddling, required for short sea journeys in calm conditions.

This course is specifically designed to equip you with the confidence and competence for enjoyable kayaking adventures along calm coastlines and in open-water conditions. Join us to explore new horizons and take your kayaking journey to the next level!

Pre-requisites:
  1. Holder of Hong Kong China Canoe Union Kayak 3 Star Award / Kayak Elementary Certificate; or HKU Uni-Adventure Programme Kayaking (Level 1) Competency Record within 12 months.
  2. Capable of swimming a distance of 50 meters and stay afloat in water at destined location for one minute without assistance from any buoyancy aid.
  3. Capable of performing deep water rescue (both solo and assisted) if falling out.
Points to note:
  1. Participant’s personal particulars will be shared with our instructor for the necessary communication and preparations.
  2. Participant should wear suitable clothing and gear, such as swimming suits, swimming trunks, sunglasses, spectacle bands, sun caps, breathable long-sleeved outer clothing; and slippers for gathering at the pool / heel-toe covered rubber water sports shoes for sea activities.
  3. Self-prepared snack & drinks.
  4. Participant should be punctual and assemble at our swimming pool.
  5. Participants must wear buoyancy aids provided by the centre.
  6. In case of cold weather, participants are advised to wear fleece outer clothing and windbreaker jacket. Full-body wetsuit which can limit your mobility is highly not preferred.
  7. The course will be cancelled and rescheduled if black rainstorm warning signal or typhoon signal No.3 or above is in force 2 hours before the class.
  8. In case the typhoon signal No. 3 or black rainstorm warning signal is cancelled 2 hours before the class and the venue condition permits, all activities of the day will be held as normal.
  9. Make-up session will be arranged according to the schedule whenever is necessary.
