We are excited to announce the kickoff of the 45th Annual Intervarsity Games (AIG), marked by a vibrant opening ceremony and an exhilarating Aquatic Meet at the Henry Fok Swimming Pool, Stanley Ho Sports Centre, HKU on 18th October.

The AIG celebrates long-standing competition and sportsmanship between HKU and CUHK, showcasing the talents and dedication of their respective athletes. For over four decades, this event has served as a platform for students to exhibit their athletic abilities and build friendships, competing in a range of sports that includes basketball, soccer, swimming, track and field, volleyball, badminton, table tennis, and more. The Aquatics Meet traditionally opens the Games, beginning this series of events.

This year, HKU was proud to host the Opening Ceremony, with distinguished guests such as Mrs. Cherry Tse Ling Kit Ching, GBS, JP, Executive Vice-President (Administration & Finance) of HKU, and Professor Ko Wing Hung, Associate Vice-President and University Dean of Students at CUHK. The Ceremony was excellently organized by student representatives from both institutions, and headed by Ms. Lee Yat Kwan Hillary from HKU and Mr. Zhao Heung Lai Jarke from CUHK, chairpersons of the AIG Organizing Committee

Outstanding Performances

The Aquatic Meet showcased fierce competition, with the HKU women’s team emerging victorious and claiming the championship title. Their outstanding performances were bolstered by the men’s team, demonstrating remarkable determination. In a commendable effort, both teams finished only 9 points behind CUHK in the combined overall score.

Special recognition was given to the women’s MVPs, Cindy Cheung Sum Yuet and Anastasia Law Hang Ue, whose significant contributions were crucial to the team’s success.

Looking Ahead

TeamHKU have emerged with the overall championship in 14 times in the last 25 years of the AIG competition, and are looking to take the overall championship for the first time since 2019/20.

The excitement will continue on 1st February, when more thrilling sports events are set to take place. Athletes from HKU and CUHK will compete, showcasing their skills and sportsmanship in this annual event.
